Another possibility if you aren't seeing any signs of struggle is they may have snuck off to go broody. I've lost hens twice thinking something had gotten them for them to come back home 3 weeks later...

Mine would take off and hide under the low (ground-touching) pine branches... very tough to see... If they are young, and dissappearing during the day, my bet is on hawks...neighborhood dogs can also...

my own bet would be on the raptors. had a guniea packed off by a redtailed hawk. Kicking and screaming all the way. but the hawk never did touch down.Jim
